A week ago, I went to a silent retreat.
There was no talking and a LOT of meditating. For me that meditation included forgiveness.
Forgiveness of others in my life.
But most importantly, forgiveness of myself.
It reminded me that when we hold onto past grievances, we do more damage to ourselves than the people we refuse to forgive.
Because forgiveness is less about being forgiven and more about letting go of the negative emotions that are attached to the holding on to resentment.
I still have a sore throat from coughing and sneezing out the negative emotions but other than that I feel lighter and more content.
